Its been ‘fun’ lately as I climb up the technology ladder. Not a natural evolution for me but, with lots of help I’ve now got the website, and the Facebook page and we’ve started the videos. And was that a shock! I work with people all day, usually in front of a mirror. I know what I look like and I’ve accepted that the chunky bald bloke looking back is me, though he’s not who I picture in my head. But seeing myself on video…… I see other people go through the mirror thing quite often. People who don’t normally look at themselves or don’t really want to. Part of my job is to make looking in a mirror ok, and to use it as a tool. I started the video process on my own. I set up my old video camera and got in front of it for the first time. I’d stood behind it hundreds of times, filming people move and stand, but not this time. I had a script. I set up the lights, placed my stool against a white wall, started the camera and off I went. Froze. Couldn’t remember a thing. Blew fish bubbles a few times and stopped the camera. But it got better. Had to lose fish bubbles, eyes flicking away, sweating, stammering, blundering on, toe tapping, knee fidgeting, jiggling, glasses swinging, muttering, drifting off, and the script. It took a while. I had good help. Mostly the guys just said ‘talk’. Say what you want to say. We’d work out a topic and a few questions or ideas that I’d talk about and off we went. And now we have some video’s. They’re not glossy block busters. I’m not trying to be fancy. These are videos of me talking about and demonstrating ideas in the same way, same language that I use every day with clients. There is no specific order, though initially we’re following through the ideas and concepts that come up in a first session. They’ll become more specific as we go. We’ll have some of how I work with clients and some about individual muscles and injuries and conditions and causes and symptoms and lots more. They’ll all stack up to ‘How to take charge of your own body’. Like the Postural Patterning system, the videos will be consistent. They won’t be perfect. Some things may be repeated. One useful thing I’ve noticed over the years is that I often have to say something three different ways before the person I’m with can hear and understand me – mentally and physically. The videos are free. Postural Patterning is mainly about getting information to people. These videos are the best way of getting the message out that you can have a role in looking after your own body, aiding your own recovery from injury, preventing problems down the track, and finding your wellness. These videos are for you.
